Basic Space is delighted to present Carl Hickey for our June BASIC TALK - 1pm on Friday the 6th of June 2025 at the Hugh Lane Gallery. For this Basic Talk Carl Hickey will be in conversation with Basic Space Co-Director Laura Harvey-Graham.
Carl Hickey (b. Dublin, 1998) is an artist who lives and work is based in Dublin, Ireland. Hickey graduated in BA Fine Art specialising in Painting from NCAD in 2022, where he received The Dean Residency Award for his graduate show.
Since graduating he has gone on to have two solo shows “In-Between Stops” in Liberty Ink (2022) and “Everything and Nothing” with gallery, Atelier Now (2023). He published a book “From the Top Deck of the Bus” with Driftwood Editions (2023) and has featured in multiple group shows including “In the Press” with Hypha Studios in London (2025). He completed his residency with Cill Railag Arts in Co. Kerry, Ireland in 2025 as well as set to have his third show in The Horse Gallery in October of 2025.
Carl Hickey’s work which is almost a completion of everyday situations and events. The chaotic and the organised, Carl’s work which is an ode to the on-going rambles of life, uses Dublins civilian’s and space’s to portray the city and the suburbs in different context using oil paint as his main tool to convey his subjects, Hickey also used video and written work juxtaposed.
