BASIC TALKS ~ Eoghan Ryan ~ November 2026, TU Dublin

12.30pm, 12/11/2026

TU Dublin, Grangegorman Campus, Dublin 7

Basic Space is delighted to present Eoghan Ryan for our November BASIC TALK - 12.30pm on Thursday the 12th of November 2026, TU Dublin, Grangegorman Campus, D7.

Eoghan Ryan works across moving image, installation, performance, puppetry, text and collage to explore how power circulates socially and through mediated culture, and how working from within existing systems can create space to question the structures that sustain their authority.

His process involves long periods of editing, documentation and attention to specific people, sites, objects or songs, shaping these encounters into fable-like reflections on how individual experience and shared narratives become entangled within broader institutional environments, ranging from states of being and nation-states to the cultivation of provisional cultures, in art as in bacteria. He is currently interested in how histories of community action intersect with faith, and in the contradictions that emerge when movements grounded in pacifism and social justice come into alignment with compromised moral, political or religious positions.

Selected exhibitions and performances include Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh (UK); Rijksmuseum Twenthe, Enschede (NL); De Appel (NL); EVA International 2025 (IRE); IMMA (IRE); Ilmin Museum of Art (KR); Viewmaster Projects (NL); Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin (IT); Haus für Medienkunst (DE); Centrale Fies (IT); Busan Biennale 2022 (KR); Kunstverein Freiburg (DE); South London Gallery (UK); and Serralves Museum (PT). Selected screenings include BFMAF 2026 (UK); Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen 2026 (DE); BFI Film Festival and ICA London (UK); IFFR (NL); and IFI, Dublin (IRE).

He completed an MFA at Goldsmiths (2013), attended the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (2019–21), and participated in VISIO European Programme on Artists’ Moving Images (2021). He received the Stiftung Niedersachsen Grant for Media Art (2024), took part in the Dwell Here residency at IMMA (2025), and currently holds a Project Studio at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, Dublin.
