BASIC TALKS ~ Marcel Vidal in conversation with Frank Wasser
1pm, 11/1/2019
The Hugh Lane Gallery
Basic Space is delighted to present Marcel Vidal in conversation with Frank Wasser for our January BASIC TALK.
Marcel Vidal makes paintings and sculptures. He graduated from the National College of Art and Design in 2009. He works intuitively with a variety of materials, constructing distinctive sculptures, that often stage and frame his paintings. His approach to sculpture and its assembled chaos and combative insistence is strongly contrasted by his paintings made in oil and watercolour. Vidal's paintings are restrained, often withholding information, through rigorous cropping in an attempt to frustrate interpretation. The convergence of these two modes of production and their aesthetic contrast is what interests him.
Frank Wasser is an artist, writer and art historian from Dublin, Ireland based in London. Wasser studied Fine Art at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, Ireland and graduated with a MFA in 2012. Wasser has exhibited and lectured nationally and internationally and has been an invited guest lecturer and educator at Tate Modern, Tate Britain, The Design Museum, National College of Art and Design, Ireland, Art Basel, Frieze Art Fair and University of Reading. Wasser's practice takes the form of an ongoing analysis of the legacies of modernism in current art writing and object-making with an emphasis on the interview format, performance and reparative.
Marcel Vidal & Frank Wasser are supported by Arts Council Ireland.
BASIC TALKS is a series of talks with leading contemporary practitioners, taking place at The Hugh Lane on the second Friday of every month.
