Basic Space is delighted to present Manal Mahamid for our May BASIC TALK - 1pm on Friday the 12th of May 2023 at Hugh Lane Gallery.

Manal Mahamid is a Palestinian conceptual multidisciplinary artist based in Haifa and Dublin since 2020. She was born in the Palestinian village of Muawiya.

She earned her Masters in Fine Arts at the University of Haifa in 2006 as the recipient of a scholarship of Excellence. Four years later, she graduated from the University of Tel Aviv with a degree in Museology and Curation. Mahamid works across various mediums, including sculpture, video, installation, painting, and photography.

Mahamid was shortlisted for the 2002 A.M Qattan Young Artist Award. The Delfina Foundation granted her a Resident Artist Award as part of the Riwaq Biennale, a collaboration with the AM Qattan Foundation. Her works have been exhibited in London, Chicago, Cairo, Düsseldorf, Haifa,

Ramallah, Um El Fahim, and Jericho in more than 50 group exhibitions. In 2014 and 2016, she exhibited her work at the Qalandiya International Festival, organized by the Arab Culture Association in Haifa. Her solo exhibitions include; "The Tale of a Gazelle" in 2016 and "work in progress" in 2017.

Curated by Basic Space in partnership with the Hugh Lane Gallery, BASIC TALKS is an open platform for lectures, workshops, presentations and performances. Speakers include artists, curators, writers and critics who generate discourse on producing, framing and exhibiting art.
